Soccer
“Winners take time to relish their work, knowing that scaling the mountain is what makes the view from the top so exhilarating.”-Denis Waitley
These words perfectly summed up the successful season achieved by our Under 15 and Open Soccer teams for the year 2010. With the spirit of “Ayoba” going around the country, all the boys were fired up to make this season, ‘THE ONE’ to remember.
Both the Under 15 and the Open teams came out of their pool matches without conceding defeat. During all their matches, we had seen great dedication, commitment and zeal from all the players to fly the Bishop Bavin flags high. Their hard-work has paid off with the following results at the end of the season: The Open team finished in the Top 8 of the Open Private School League and our beloved U15’s finished in the Top 4 of their respective age group league. What an achievement for Bishop Bavin!
Each player has lived up to the school motto, ‘Christ above all.’ Before each match, prayers took priority and thanks were given to God after each game. There was a great spirit of sportsmanship among the players where in so many games we were complimented by the other coaches for the exemplary behavior and attitude of our players.
Thanks to the Rector, Father Ellis for his blessings and for Mr. Neil Levenson for all his organization, we also went on a Soccer Tour to Welkom where we played the Top schools in the area and our boys really did us proud by coming out with one victory and one narrow defeat but the experience was very enriching as we included some very young players on the trip.
We would like to thank everyone who has contributed to a very successful year for our “Bafanas”. Mr. and Mrs. Donaldson for the kit and other soccer equipment; the anonymous generosity from a parent; the Head of College, Mr. Dippenaar; all the college staff; Mrs. Debbie Ellis; Mr. Neil Levenson and Mr. Greg Ellis for their continuous support. Last but not least, the pillar behind our success, our Rector, Father Ellis for his unfailing support, encouragement, prayers and blessing for each of our games.
We look forward to keep the “Waka Waka” for the next season, and to all the matrics leaving us, we wish you well in all your future endeavors.
