Netball
This year we managed to field 5 teams in both the College and Prep School due to the enthusiasm of the girls, as well as a first for us - a College Action Netball team.
We started the league with our first matches early in April, but our girls stood up to the pressure of played matches a mere week after practices had begun. We had some excellent results this season with a number of teams winning most of the games in their pool.
Thank you so much to the teachers involved: Mrs J Lourens, Mrs S Kempson, Mrs G Sheerin and Mrs T De Bruin - we know how busy you are, yet you always give willingly and graciously of your time to improve your teams. The girls and I really appreciate it! To our head coach: Chantell, you always manage to get our girls to achieve the exceptional and we are so grateful to have you as a coach and umpire! Thank you to our new coaches for this year - Dominique, Michelle, Rene, Kerry and Carlene. The girls all benefited from your expertise in the sport and you have managed to instill in them both a commitment and enjoyment for netball! |

We have a wonderful support system for our matches: thank you so much to Mrs A Ebersohn and Mrs J Lourens who always ensure we have wonderful refreshments on hand at all home matches, to the drivers: Sam, Edward and Jimmy who get us safely and on time, to and from matches and to all the male Phys. Ed. Staff who always set up the courts for us for matches.
We are very proud of our netball teams and have had a successful season!
Firstly, one of our players was selected to attend the Private schools trials out of the 42 private schools in our area, with over 200 pupils at each set of trials and only 7 girls in each age group were selected. Simphiwe Mahlangu (U18) who was selected at the private school’s trials went on to be selected for the Private School’s provincial squad.
Our Prep school teams in particular have done very well with the U11 and U10 age groups both coming second in their pools. Our U9’s won 5 matches, our U10’s won 6 matches, our U11’s won 5 matches, our U12’s won 3 matches and our U13’s won 2 matches.
Some of our College teams also did very well:
Our U15’s won 4 of the matches they played. Our U18 team won 4 out of 5 league matches they played, some of the scores being: against Ashton College they won 22-21, against Yeshiva they won 30-13, against Leeuwenhof they won 32-30, and against Christ Church they won 30-13. The girls made us immensely proud with their determined spirit and positive attitude towards this game.
We have had some incredible support - from Fr Ellis blessing us as well as the teachers and coaches that put an incredible amount of time into training these girls - it’s definitely paid off!
To those girls that are leaving us this year - Becky, Simphiwe, Palesa , Jade and Lerato - we will miss you lots! The younger players who played for the U18’s Veronica, Siya, Sitha and Pinky - we look forward to seeing what you can do next year now that you have the experience!
Thank you to everyone involved for a wonderful netball season!
