Fencing
2009 has been an incredible year; Bishop Bavin Fencing Academy has maintained the same high standard, with two of our fencers Ashleigh Strange and Demi-Lee Schultz taking part in the Junior World Championships in Belfast, Ireland. What an incredible experience taking part against the top fencers from around the world, as well as experiencing the local history and one of the wonders of the world, Giants Causeway.
Demi-lee seems set to do great things, only starting fencing early last year and screaming through the ranks, and upsetting the whole show with outstanding performances in Bloemfontein in October to qualify for the World Champs, quite a show and definitely someone to watch out for.
The Academy under the Coaching of Ivana and Andre is growing from strength to strength, it numbers close on 50 now, with about 10 new fencers taking part in National competitions.
Ivana, who recently got her Masters in Sport management, with honors, has kept all the fencers in great shape and reflexes at their peak. A special thanks to Ivana and Andre’ for their efforts and patience with the fencing team, and all the hours you put in to make the team the success that it is.
Debbie Ellis, the head of sport, thank you for always making time for us and our sometimes unusual requests for training and competitions.
Father Ellis, thank you for your support, and all your pushing behind the scenes, making sure that everyone has the opportunity to be involved, and that they have whatever is needed to achieve their dreams, thank you.
