Learning support at Bishop Bavin has inclusion as its point of departure. Inclusion is a commitment to educate each learner to the maximum extent appropriate in the school. It involves bringing the services to the learners.
In terms of its foundation, Bishop Bavin College is an Anglican School committed to the belief that a life based on a personal relationship with God is an important component of a meaningful existence. On this understanding, learners of a variety of faiths are welcomed, respected and
provided for. The beautiful Chapel unequivocally reflects the importance of our Christian foundation and the value structures which prevail here.
The school offers a broad general education in Grades 8 and 9, where the aim is to introduce learners to a wide range of subjects while accommodating the requirements of the General Education and Training Certificate programme (GETC).
From Grade 10 to Grade 12 pupils focus increasingly on their seven Senior Certificate (FETC) subjects. The learning areas are those prescribed by the Independent Examinations Board.
Our concept of leadership is distinctive in its character. We believe effective leadership should be an inside-out process which is founded on effective personal leadership, the capacity to lead our own lives and to consistently make wise choices based on sound values. On this foundation, we believe that effective interpersonal relationships can be developed where the potential of others and the power of interdependence are recognised. Through these relationships, leadership
capacity is enhanced in the ability to create conditions in which others can flourish, and organisational leadership skills become attainable whereby effective leaders are able to align systems in order to achieve desirable outcomes
This concept of leadership does not deliberately aspire to producing leaders in the traditional sense of those who assume positions at the top of hierarchical organisations. It does, however, aim to develop the unique capacities of all, based on the conviction that all have the inherent
potential to contribute wherever they might find themselves.
The facilities and the infrastructure are there for the learners to enjoy. We hope that a Bishop Bavin learner will leave school with a rich tapestry of memories of happy hours spent on the sports fields, and that in the process he will have learnt the true meaning of words such as friendship, commitment and enjoyment.
